Studies in Prague

The fact that Charles University and the IPS reside in the capital city of Prague has many advantages. Prague is a social, economic, cultural and of course also political centre of the Czech Republic. Besides, it is one of the main centres – both historically as well as from a modern perspective – of Central and Eastern Europe. According to the index of Globalization and World Cities, Prague – alongside with Moscow and Warsaw – ranks among the only three so-called alpha cities of all the Central-European regions (2012); according to other indexes, Prague consistently ranks among the fifty cities of the highest importance globally, once again as one of the few cities in the regions. Naturally, the capital city of Prague represents a great place for studying current politics – national, European, and global as well.

Even though supreme institutions of state power may be found in other cities as well (for instance the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court seated in Brno), it is in Prague where political and economic power concentrates within the Czech Republic. Due to the amount of public and private institutions based in Prague there are almost limitless possibilities for a student of political science to discover the many faces of politics.

Besides, Prague is simply a beautiful city. Although it counts more than 1 million inhabitants, it is principally a students' city with its roughly 130 thousand students. Correspondingly, it combines antiquity and historical value with the youth, social life and boundless possibilities for all the members of students' community. The life in Prague abounds in cultural and social get-togethers. Prague is not only the city of European significance, but also one of the centres of European-wide and world culture. It is great to study and live in Prague.
