IEPS

International Economic and Political Studies

This two-year, English-language Master's degree programme investigates contemporary political, economic and social issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. It is modelled on the principles of Oxford-style Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) programmes that are among the favoured social science degrees by employers, leading institutions and students.  The primary emphasis in the program is placed upon both economic and political science approaches, along with an exploration of the historical, legal and sociological aspects of the two disciplines. The programme is taught by members of all five institutes of the Faculty of Social Sciences, including the Institute of Political Studies (IPS) and Institute of Economic Studies (IES).

The programme is based neither on an overview of facts about the social organisation, nor on crunching of abstract mathematical models. The ultimate goal of the programme aims to deeply enhance critical thinking skills of its students on social, economic and political issues within globalised societies. Students deal with the nature of economic objectives of agents, social organisation, institutions of power, emergence of conflicts and efforts for cooperation. They are expected to master the principles of modern, non-conventional economic thinking and be able to apply it in political decision-making at the level of supra-national institutions, states, regional governments, corporations, firms, political parties or groups of citizens.

Through their studies, students will appreciate the highly flexible nature of the programme, which allows for specialisation in economics, politics, or humanities, according to the selection of available courses from three categories of modules.
